Conductivity Level Switches

 

The conductivity probes coupled an electronic controller are suitable for monitoring or controlling the levels of conductive liquids.  It is therefore not suitable for use with liquids such as oils and oil derivatives, oil contaminated water.  Typical usage would be ground water protection applications.

Tilt/Teardrop Level Switches

 

These sealed float switches are typically used for alarm monitoring or pump control.  The float contains a tilt switch which is triggered when the liquid level rises.  Trigger point is set by cable length, counterweight or tether point.  Suitable for most clear and contaminated water, acid or alkaline solutions.

Horizontal Float Level Switches

 

Compact side mounted level switches are the solution to many small tank applications, these low-cost units are ideal for high volume usage.  Plastic construction offers broad compatibility in water, oils and chemicals.  A high temperature Versaplast option is also available and offers an alternative to high cost stainless steel switches.  For more rugged applications, these level switches are available in brass or stainless steel construction.

Electro-Optic Level Switches

 

These Electro-Optic level switches are low cost, compact, optical level sensors with built in switching electronics.  With no moving parts, these small units are ideal for a variety of point level sensing applications - especially where dependability and economy are a must.  The sensor offers ±1mm repeatability and broad liquid compatibility.  They are not recommended for use in any liquid that crystallises or leaves a solid residue.  Installation is simple and quick through the tank top, bottom or side and solid state switching ensures dependability over long service life.  A choice of insertion lengths is available for detection of various depths from top of tank.

Rotary Paddle Level Switches

Vibrating Level Switches

 

The vibrating level switches are suitable for almost all level switching applications; two blade design for liquids, and single blade for solids ensures that no media is trapped, hence reduced risk of false readings.  There are no moving parts resulting in zero maintenance and are simple to install as no adjustment is needed.  They are un-effected by environmental changes, dust clouds or agitation.  There is also a short twin bladed version is available for installing into pipe work, typically for pump protection.

Capacitive Level Switches

 

Capacitive level switches are suitable for use on liquids, solids, slurries, paste, granules, powder and pellets in high temperature, pressure and corrosive environments.  The probe has an integral ground sleeve which enables the switch to operate in metal, concrete, plastic and other non-metal tanks.  The sensor features adjustable sensitivity and activation delay to match a wide range of media and applications.  They can also be used effectively for detecting the interface level of oil or foam on water.

RF Admittance Level Switches

 

These admittance level switches are similar to the capacitive type but have the added advantage of being virtually immune to media build up on the sensing probe.  A non stick sleeve can be added to further reduce media build up making this level switch a reliable long term solution for level alarms in sticky media.  Typical applications are acid tanks, bitumen, tar, asphalt, adhesive, polymers, paints and pastes.

Microwave Level Switches

 

This range of Microwave level switches provides a simple non contact, non intrusive option suitable for many applications on both liquids and solids.  An installation comprises of a transmitter and a receiver which are mounted facing one another up to a maximum of 40mtrs apart.  Typical applications for detecting presence and no presence of materials include flow and no flow conditions, point level detection, and blockage detection.

Hydrostatic External Level Transmitters

 

The ceramic sensor used in these hydrostatic transmitters feature high compatibility against aggressive media.  Typical industries are water and sewage, chemical, medical and pharmaceutical.  The main strength of this level sensing method is its immunity to surface conditions and agitation.  The body of the sensor is also available in PVDF offering higher resistance to chemicals and other aggressive media.

Hydrostatic Submersible Level Transmitters

 

Submersible pressure transmitters are a cost effective and reliable method of level detection.  Suitable for sewage and water treatment, wells and open water as well as vented tanks and aggressive media.  These are particularly successful in applications with foam content where other technologies may fail.  Available as standard one piece housing or detachable, this enables the sensor to be removed without removing the entire cable run.

Ultrasonic Level Transmitters

FMCW Radar Level Transmitters

 

Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar is immune to changes in dielectric, pressure, vacuum, humidity, dust, viscosity, foam or temperature and is capable of measuring ranges up to 40 metres.  These are available as a 2 wire loop powered transmitter and are simple to install or retrofit due to the small diameter of its output horn and wide range of process connections.  Suitable for narrow tanks due to reduced beam diameter.  The radar signal can also penetrate surface foam on liquids to give a reliable liquid level measurement.

TDR Level Transmitters

 

Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) employs a metal probe to concentrate the signal into a narrower beam therefore more of the reflected energy is returned to the sensor, resulting in less signal disturbance.  Although this transmitter requires contact with the media, it still remains un-effected by dielectric, pressure, vacuum, humidity, dust, viscosity, foam or temperature.
